The Nuclear Power Division is the largest of the two Holtec divisions. This division also has a proud and unblemished record of performance - not one project of over a hundred executed by this division in the past fifteen years has missed a major delivery milestone. The Nuclear Power Division subscribes to the dictum that superb performance begets client loyalty that begets growth and success. The annual sales of this division have increased from $2 million in 1987 to over $90 million (and counting) in 2005. The Nuclear Power Division has consistently won accolades for its project performance from nuclear utilities around the world. The Nuclear Power Division operates under four business units; they are;
The Spent Fuel Systems group is tasked with the mission of providing safe, robust, and reliable solutions for the management of the backend of the nuclear power cycle for use by the commercial nuclear power plants. SFSD strives to be a total solution provider.
Over 80 nuclear plants in the U.S., Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Britain, and Mexico elected to utilize the company’s ultra-high density wet storage technology that the SFS group is widely credited for inventing and developing into a safe fuel storage option in the wake of the cessation of fuel reprocessing in the U.S.
Wet storage capacity expansion projects were the mainstay of the Spent Fuel Systems until the late 1990s, when on-site dry storage began to develop into a significant business segment.
The Spent Fuel Systems group is organized to provide a “one-stop-shop” – an exceptionally capable shop – for all goods ands services required by a dry storage or a wet storage project.
NPD maintains a highly qualified cadre of engineers and technicians with in-depth knowledge and training to carry out all phases of a spent fuel project.
This includes equipment design and licensing, material, acquisitions and manufacturing (at the company’s subsidiary, UST&D, Inc., or at another qualified fabricator).
The Nuclear Components business unit designs heat exchangers and pressure vessels and appurtenances for nuclear power plants for manufacturing by its UST&D manufacturing subsidiary or another qualified subcontractor.
The Technology Consulting business unit is the cerebral component of NPD, tasked with developing innovative solutions to technical problems of power plants.
The Site Services business unit performs installation of primarily spent fuel storage systems. The SS business unit has over nineteen years of experience dealing with wet storage capacity expansion projects.
A typical wet storage capacity expansion project involves removal of exiting fuel racks and installation of new high density fuel racks in the spent fuel pool. The removal and installation of fuel racks is accomplished by use of remotely operated lifting and handling tools and under water diving operation as required. The SS business unit also performs site construction activities such as the construction of ISFSI pad for Dry storage casks.
