Superheaters
The wet steam produced in the steam generator is superheated in a superheater using the heat from the primary solar working fluid. The superheater is typically a “U” tube heat exchanger with the solar working fluid flowing through the tubeside and steam through the shellside. Both shellside and tubeside components are subject to high temperatures.
The Holtec superheater is carefully designed and fabricated designed to
withstand the stresses produced by high temperature cyclic operation.
Among the distinguishing features of the Holtec superheaters are:
- Axially disposed steam flow to minimize the risk to tube erosion
- Tube bundle and shellside space engineered to minimize pressure loss and maximum flow field uniformity
- High tolerance for thermal ramps
