Air Cooled Condensers
The ACC is physically the largest piece of equipment in most dry cooled power plants. It represents a significant portion of the overall capital investment of the plant. Being directly connected to the steam turbine, it's operational characteristics has a significant impact on the overall plant performance. Therefore, the selection of the ACC for a plant is critical. The design of Holtec's ACC accordingly incorporates exhaustively tested and proven technology to ensure uncompromised reliability.
If some, but not all, of the water is available for the plant's condensing needs, the use of a parallel condensing system may be the right choice. Parallel condensing is a system consisting of two established technologies; wet surface condensing and direct air cooled condensing. Holtec is a unique world supplier in as much as it offers both dry and wet condensers for utility size applications. Holtec’s Engineers, by way of previous experience within the industry, have been involved with the engineering of over 60% of the operating parallel systems in the world.
Holtec's HI-MAX™ technology leap frogs present day performance and service life expectations. Holtec's HI-MAX all stainless steel all welded fin tubeThe HI-MAX™ bundle's design reduces internal pressure drops and increases the amount of extended surface area by nearly 20% in comparison to its peer designs.
HI-MAX's stainless steel fins and tubes eliminate the thermal stresses associated with aluminized carbon steel tubes and aluminum fins (used in peer systems), thus extending the performance life of the air cooled condenser. The stainless steel bundles also provide a superior internal and external corrosion protection, which mitigates two significant problems with today's ACC’s; flow accelerated corrosion and iron carryover into the condensate.
The increased performance of the HI-MAX™ fin tube bundles may allow for fewer cells, thus lowering erection costs. HI-MAX™ tube will eliminate nearly 95% of the internal corrosion that plagues peer systems.
The HI-MAX™ fin-to-tube bond is made by laser welding is the strongest in the industry. HI-MAX™ does not rely on dipping or baked coatings, which tend to abridge service life. Our manufacturing facility is centrally located within the United States, and subject to a quality regimen that emulates ISO-9001.
Minimizing the system cost by coaxing maximum performance efficiency from the ACC through the use of state-of-the-art computation fluid dynamics code (FLUENT) is the secret to the cost competitiveness of Holtec's air cooled condensing systems.
The HI-MAX™ stainless steel tubing is the reassuring guarantor of a long service life and minimal internal corrosion.
