Holtec Technical Services Division

Dr. Bill Woodward: Executive-in-chargeDr. Bill Woodward: Executive-in-chargeThe Technical Services Division’s principal activities are focused on providing engineering, design, and consulting services to the power industry. Although most of TSD’s business is derived from the electric power generation industry, the TSD organization is fully equipped to render services to industries as diverse as defense, aviation, chemical, pharmaceutical, and environmental protection.

The Technical Services Division is the cerebral core of Holtec International. It is the division where new ideas are nurtured and are evolved into new technologies. Much of the Nuclear Power Division’s product development work is done in the TSD, which has garnered a distinguished record of technology innovations. It is said that TSD is where state-of-the-art computer models get their total workout evaluating cutting-edge designs.

Over 80 nuclear plants in the U.S., Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Britain, and Mexico elected to utilize the company’s ultra-high density wet storage technology that the TSD group is widely credited for inventing and developing into a safe fuel storage option in the wake of the cessation of fuel reprocessing in the U.S. in the late 70s.

TSD’s core assets are the high caliber engineers and scientists who comprise its core expertise base. TSD maintains the latest state-of-the-art computer codes in fully benchmarked and QA-validated status to enable its specialists to build the most sophisticated models to simulate physical phenomena with high fidelity.

Analyses of the plant's systems and components under the previously uncontemplated and unforeseen conditions must be performed using their latest technologies in applied mechanics, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear physics, and other fields of engineering, if expensive plant modifications are to be avoided.

Using the most sophisticated computational and analytical tools to quantify existing margins in the operating nuclear and non-nuclear power plants has a central activity of the Technical Services Division in recent years.
